The 2010 Academy Awards took place on March 7, 2010 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles . It was the 82nd Academy Award presentation since it was first presented in 1929 . In the year of the Academy Awards, awards are always given to films from the previous year, in this case the films of 2009 .

Moderation

The award ceremony was moderated by actors Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin .

Key data

The decisions about the nominees were submitted by the members of the Academy between December 28, 2009 and January 23, 2010. The nominations in the individual categories were announced on February 2, 2010; one month later, on March 7, 2010, the award ceremony took place. The reason for holding the award ceremony in March and not in February, as before, was the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , which was running in the relevant period .

The Technology Oscars ( Technical Achievement Awards and Scientific and Engineering Awards ) were presented on February 20, 2010 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills .

Innovations

As announced on June 24, 2009 by Sid Ganis , President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , the number of films nominated for Best Picture has increased from five to ten. According to Ganis, this decision should also enable animated films, such as the film Above, which premiered in 2009, or independent films to be nominated in this category.

As before with the awards for science and technology, the honorary awards were given for the first time before the actual presentation of the Academy Awards. The winners of the Honorary Oscar and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award were honored at a gala dinner on November 14, 2009.

In the award ceremony produced by Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman , as in the previous year, the nominations in the categories of Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress were presented individually by five colleagues. To streamline the show, the nominations in the Best Song category were for the first time not presented as live performances, but as a short cut analogous to the nominations in other categories.

The proclamation "And the Oscar goes to ..." was changed back to the old saying "And the Winner is ..." after 22 years. It was a decision made by the show's producers with the consent of the Academy.

Award winners and nominations

The Oscar nominations were announced on February 2, 2010 by actress Anne Hathaway . The field of nominated films was headed jointly by James Cameron's Avatar - Aufbruch nach Pandora and Kathryn Bigelow's war drama Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker (9 nominations each), followed by Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (8), Lee Daniels ' social drama Precious - Das Leben is precious and Jason Reitman's tragic comedy Up in the Air (6 nominations each). The award for the best film went to Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker . Director Kathryn Bigelow was the first filmmaker to receive the directing award.

The European co-production The White Ribbon - A German Children's Story by Michael Haneke was nominated as a German entry in the category of Best Foreign Language Film and for the Best Cinematography ( Christian Berger ), but it came out empty-handed. The award went to the actor Christoph Waltz ( Inglourious Basterds ), the composer Hans Zimmer ( Sherlock Holmes ) nominated.
