Africa Cup 2012 / squad
This article provides an overview of the teams participating in the 2012 Africa Cup . The teams are arranged according to the preliminary round groups and sorted alphabetically within the groups. Each national association had to nominate 23 players by January 11, 2012. Changes to the line-up were still possible up to 24 hours before the start of the tournament in the event of serious injuries.
Group A
Equatorial Guinea
At Equatorial Guinea, Brazilian Gílson Paulo took over as coach only a few days before the start of the tournament after Frenchman Henri Michel resigned for the second time within three months due to outside interference. Within the team there were tensions between local, foreign and naturalized players. Surprisingly, Iván Zarandona was missing from the tournament line-up , seven of the 23 players are naturalized.

Hervé Renard , who succeeded Dario Bonetti after successfully qualifying for the tournament , announced his 28-player provisional squad on December 23, 2011. He had to do without Jacob Mulenga , who was out with a knee injury, and Emmanuel Mbola , who was banned by FIFA for several months for breach of contract. Of the 28 nominated players, five had to be canceled before the start of the tournament, Thomas Nyirenda and James Chamanga were injured when the squad was announced, it was unclear whether they would be fit by the start of the tournament. At the end of December, William Njovu had to cancel his participation due to an injury. Rodgers Kola did not receive an early clearance from his club to travel to the training camp and was therefore canceled by Renard, Nyirenda was unable to get fit in time. The last two players to be removed from the squad were surprisingly forward Given Singuluma and Justine Zulu, who also arrived late for training camp .

National coach Paulo Duarte announced his provisional squad on December 22, 2011. Among the 25 nominated players there was neither Hervé Zengué , because of whose unclear eligibility to play, Burkina Faso's participation was dependent on a ruling by the International Sports Court , nor the former regular players Wilfried Sanou , Madi Panandétiguiri , Issouf Ouattara and Habib Bamogo . The defensive players Robert Sankara ( ASEC Mimosas ), Issa Gouo ( ASFA-Yennenga Ouagadougou ) and Stéphane Agbré ( Atlético CP ) and striker Yahia Kébé ( Al-Kharitiyath SC ) did not belong to the final 23-man squad from the provisional squad. In return, Panandétiguiri and Préjuce Nakoulma were added to the squad at the last moment .

National coach Mohamed Abdalla Ahmed nominated 23 players from the domestic league, with players from Al-Hilal Khartoum (10 players) and Al-Merrikh Khartoum (7 players) making up the majority of the squad. The two Nigerian players Kelechi Osunwa and Kayode Sherif Sule , who both had played in Sudan for years, had acquired Sudanese citizenship and were said to have belonged to the provisional squad, were not considered. Ahmed Al Basha (Al-Merrikh Khartoum) was not on the official tournament list from the originally announced squad, so Sudan's squad consists of only 22 players.
Group C
Gabon
Gernot Rohr nominated a 30-player provisional squad early on. Jean-Pierre Bamba ( FC 105 Libreville ) had to renounce shortly after due to an injury. On January 5th, Rohr reduced the selection to 26 players, Willy Aubameyang ( FC Sapins ), Alexander N'Doumbou ( US Orléans ), Claude Cédric Mvé Mintsa ( Missile FC ) and Henri Antchouet ( Churchill Brothers SC ) had to leave the training camp. After a friendly against Burkina Faso on January 10, 2012, Rohr announced his final line-up and deleted Catilina Aubameyang (FC Sapins), Allen Nono ( USM Libreville ) and Roger Issakounia ( AS Mangasport ), who was presumably nominated for Bamba, from the Squad list.

On January 2nd, Sami Trabelsi nominated 26 players for the training camp in Dubai used to prepare for the tournament . As a result, the three players in the Tunisian league, Walid Hicheri ( Espérance Sportive de Tunis ), Iheb Msakni ( Stade Tunisien ) and Mohamed Ali Yaacoubi ( Club Africain Tunis ) did not make it into the final round.
Group D
Botswana
The preparation of the Botswana team, which had been named National Team of the Year 2011 by the African Football Association for their achievements, was overshadowed by bonus disputes between the players and the national football association. After the players repeatedly refused to take part in training sessions at the beginning of January, the players ended their strike on January 9, 2012 following the intervention of President Ian Khama . National coach Stanley Tshosane announced his tournament list on the same day. Edwin Olerile , Botswana's Footballer of the Year 2011, and Skhana Koko , who had been voted Botswana's Footballer of the Year by fans last season, were not taken into account . Shortly before the start of the tournament, Joel Mogorosi ( Mochudi Center Chiefs ) broke his arm and was replaced by Abednico Powell.
Ghana
National coach Goran Stevanović announced his provisional 25-player squad on December 15, 2011. Stevanović had to do without Michael Essien from Chelsea FC and Kevin-Prince Boateng from AC Milan , who had retired from the national team in November 2011 , due to injury . Goalkeeper Richard Kingson , who had been without a club since July 2011, and Harrison Afful from CAF Champions League winner Espérance Sportive de Tunis were not considered . The two strikers Derek Asamoah ( Pohang Steelers ) and Emmanuel Baffour ( New Edubiase United ) missed the jump from the provisional to the final tournament line-up .

Michel Dussuyer nominated 26 players in his provisional squad on December 27, 2011. Including Abdoul Razzagui Camara, a French U-21 international whose association change has yet to be approved by FIFA. Alimou Mamadou Diallo missed a nomination due to injury, Mohamed Sakho and the clubless Fodé Mansaré lack of match practice was fatal. For the final lineup, Boubacar Diallo ( FC Spartak Trnava ) and Karamoko Cissé ( UC AlbinoLeffe ) were canceled, top performer Kévin Constant ( CFC Genoa ) asked not to be considered.

National coach Alain Giresse nominated 27 players for his provisional squad on December 23, 2011. As expected, Frédéric Kanouté (resigned from the national team), Mohamed Sissoko (national team break ), Mahamadou Diarra ( without a club for half a year) and Adama Coulibaly (injured) were missing four seasoned European region players for various reasons . From the provisional squad, Amadou Sidibé ( AJ Auxerre ), who was unable to complete training sessions due to injury, as well as Ousmane Berthé ( Jomo Cosmos ), Cheick Fantamady Diarra ( Stade Rennes ) and Souleymane Keïta ( Sivasspor ) initially missed the nomination for the final tournament. Shortly before the start of the tournament there were two more changes in the line-up due to injuries: Kalilou Traoré ( Odense BK ) and Mohamed Fofana ( FC Toulouse ) had to forego a tournament participation, Souleymane Keïta and Ousmane Berthé were nominated for the two.
