Jörg Friedrich (rower)

Jörg Friedrich (born July 7, 1959 in Rathenow ) is a former rower from the GDR . In 1980 Friedrich was Olympic champion in eighth place .

The rower from SG Dynamo Potsdam won the Spartakiade in two without a helmsman in 1975 and 1977 . In 1977 he won the Junior World Championships together with Dietmar Schiller . 1979 both became world champions with the GDR eighth at the world championship in Bled . In 1980 at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , eighth in the line-up Bernd Krauss , Hans-Peter Koppe , Ulrich Kons , Jörg Friedrich, Jens Doberschütz , Ulrich Karnatz , Uwe Dühring and batsman Bernd Höing with Klaus-Dieter Ludwig as helmsman with almost three Seconds ahead of the second-placed British. For this success he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

At the 1981 World Cup in Munich, Friedrich and Ludwig switched to the four and won the title in the line-up of Harald Jahresling , Bernd Niesecke , Jörg Friedrich, Dietmar Schiller and Klaus-Dieter Ludwig, while the GDR eight only finished fourth. In the following year, with the exception of Schiller, everyone was in eighth place and finished second at the World Championships in Lucerne. In 1983 at the world championship in Duisburg, Schiller, Friedrich, Niesecke, Bernd Eichwurzel and Ludwig won silver in a four-man.

The trained carpenter worked in the district authority of the German People's Police (BDVP) Potsdam , but returned to the carpenter 's profession after 1990.
