1. FC Köln was represented in every official European Cup competition ( European Champion Clubs ' Cup / UEFA Champions League , European Cup Winners' Cup , UEFA Cup / UEFA Europa League and Messestädte Cup ) and reached the semi-finals at least once in each of these competitions, which in Germany otherwise only Eintracht Frankfurt managed. Altogether, the Cologne get into a European Cup semi-finals eight times. In the 1985/86 season, the FC reached its only European final in the UEFA Cup. The UEFA Intertoto Cup is treated separately as a pure qualification tournament below.
