The largest municipality in Norway is Kautokeino with 9,707 square kilometers. It is about half the size of the German state Rhineland-Palatinate . The smallest municipality in Kvitsøy covers only 6.29 square kilometers. The following table lists the largest municipalities in the country with more than 2,500 km² and the province ( Fylke ) to which the municipality belongs (as of January 1, 2020). The figures refer to the land area of the municipalities including lakes but excluding sea areas.
