List of ghost movies

The list of ghost films chronologically enumerates films and TV series that deal with ghosts or in which ghosts play a larger role.

history

Ever since the film Topper became a hit, there has been more interest in ghost films in Hollywood. For decades, ghost films were mainly shot in haunted houses.

However, the cultural and historical backgrounds from which the people came also determined the success of a film. In 1947, many widows still mourned the loss of their husbands in the Second World War . Therefore, they could identify well with the film A Ghost on Free Feet . This film was about a young widow who moves into a country house by the sea. After the spirit present initially tries to drive them away, it eventually falls in love with them.

In the 1980s, films with good special effects were more in demand, such as Ghostbusters - Die Geisterjäger or Beetlejuice .

In the 90s, however, there were more and more romantic comedies and dramas, such as the film Ghost - Message from Sam .

In the 2000s, ghost films were given a boost by the hit films The Sixth Sense and The Others . In addition, the Japanese horror film Ringu became an international hit. This aroused an interest in other Japanese horror and ghost films.
