occupation

Switch reloaded is a comedy show that was produced from 2007 to 2012 in a total of six seasons for the German private television broadcaster ProSieben . It is the successor to the show Switch - TV mercilessly parodied from 1997 to 2000 . Apart from the slightly different line-up, the new edition differs from the previous program mainly in the absence of the facts, facts, facts section . The model for Switch was the Australian series Fast Forward . The show won the German Comedy Award, the German Television Award and the Grimme Award several times . The show was repeated on Sat.1 , Sat.1 Comedy , Comedy Central , ProSieben Maxx and ProSieben Fun . On August 14, 2020, Prime Video Germany announced a new edition under the name "Binge Reloaded" for the end of 2020.

Production history

In 2000, ProSieben no longer commissioned any new episodes of Switch - TV mercilessly parodied . In autumn 2006, after a break of around six years, work on the sequel began under the direction of Wolfgang Groos (1st block) and Marco Musienko , whereupon the first episode was broadcast in March 2007. The show's title was changed to Switch reloaded . The format was initially produced by the Cologne production company Hurricane .

The second season of Switch reloaded was seen since November 6, 2007, the third season, consisting of 15 episodes, was broadcast on ProSieben from August 19, 2008. December 2008 the Switch reloaded annual review was broadcast, which satirically examined the year 2008 with the major television events. In the following year, an annual review was also filmed, which aired on December 21, 2009.

A change was noticeable from episode 6 of the third season, since from this episode onwards all other episodes got along without artificial background laughter. After the canned laughs had already been greatly reduced or completely omitted for certain skits such as the “TV total” parody, audience reactions such as laughter or applause only appeared when they belonged directly to the parody.

In 2007 the first season Switch reloaded was released as a DVD box, the second season in 2008. The third season was released in December 2008, for the first time as a three-part DVD box. In addition to bonus material such as background information and audio commentary, it also contained parodies produced but not broadcast (including on commercials) for the first time.

The fourth season was broadcast from March 2009. New parodies include talk, talk, talk and The Next Uri Geller . This season was to be interrupted by a summer break for the first time, following the American model. The first seven episodes (+ best-of) were broadcast in spring; the second part, comprising eight episodes, was originally supposed to follow in autumn 2009. Instead, the second part of the fourth season began in July 2010. Immediately after all episodes of the fourth season had been broadcast, the fifth season began broadcasting on September 14, 2010.

The sixth season consisted of 18 episodes and 2 specials and was produced by Eyeworks . The season was broadcast on Monday evenings in 2012.

New edition "Binge Reloaded"

On August 14, 2020, Prime Video Germany announced a new edition under the name "Binge Reloaded" for the end of 2020. The series is produced by, among others, Georg Kappenstein, who was also the producer for Switch Reloaded . In addition to Michael Kessler , the cast also includes Martin Klempnow , Tahnee Schaffarczyk , Antonia von Romatowski , Joyce Ilg , Jan van Weyde , Paul Sedlmeir and Christian Schiffer .

actor

The Switch reloaded cast of the first four seasons at the gala for the presentation of the Romy TV Prize in the Hofburg in Vienna.
From left to right: Michael Müller, Susanne Pätzold, Mona Sharma, Bernhard Hoëcker, Petra Nadolny, Michael Kessler, Martina Hill, Peter Nottmeier. Not in the picture: Max Giermann

With the exception of Annette Frier and Bettina Lamprecht , the entire ensemble of the old Switch episodes plays in the new edition . Max Giermann and Martina Hill are newcomers. Although Mona Sharma was also seen in the opening credits of the third season of Switch reloaded , she appeared in almost no sketch. For private reasons, she no longer wants to actively participate in front of the camera, but instead wants to concentrate on writing new skits. In the fourth season, Sharma is no longer part of the opening credits. Constanze Behrends joined the team at the end of season 4. From season 5 onwards, Martin Klempnow Switch reloaded will also step up . In contrast to Constanze Behrends, it was also integrated into the opening credits.

In the sixth season only a shortened opening credits are shown without the actors. In addition, Constanze Behrends is no longer in season 6.

reception

Switch reloaded , for example, was described by FAZ.net as a "bright spot in the program". The parodic representation would in part give “contourless screen figures an identity”. To a large extent, the "history [of television] has long since been rewritten", even if some sharp satires are followed by "pure silliness".

content

Each episode consists of several individual, shorter parodies with separate content. Between the parodies, switching to another station is indicated by an effect. Longer skits are sometimes interrupted in favor of other parodies and continued during the course of the program.

Parody TV shows

Among other things, the following is parodied:

  • Opening credits: In a short parody of changing programs, the program Switch reloaded is named by name (usually with a recommendation). In the further course of the program, the program is never mentioned by name and the parody from the opening credits is no longer discussed in the episode.
  • File 010 : Peter Nottmeier parodies Ulrich Meyer . The cameras change frequently during the broadcast, so Nottmeier has to constantly turn left or right.
  • File number XY unsolved : Müller parodies Rudi Cerne , at the beginning, when his name is to be mentioned, he always looks at the card. Said victims are z. B. the Mainzelmännchen or a fictional person named Dietmar S. (Giermann).
  • Alarm for Cobra 11 - the motorway police : Müller and Nottmeier parody Jäger and Gerkhan, who mostly have to push back office because they have once again devastated the whole city. In a sketch, the frequent change of one of the actors is parodied.
  • ARD focus : Michael Müller parodies Ulrich Deppendorf . The programs have topics that are uninteresting, irrelevant or pointless. He also always mentions that a subsequent program or an interrupted focus, which has far more important topics as its content, is postponed by the airtime of the focus. Usually he also has a person to talk to on site.
  • Astro TV : Among other things, with Sharma as the cartelist Roswitha, who predicts her negative future to callers when they “see black cards” and therefore recommends suicide. She is later replaced by Hoëcker as the annoyed Alex Kara, who tries to pull the money out of his callers' pockets.
  • Beckmann : Giermann parodies Reinhold Beckmann , who asks his guests very intimate or nonsense questions and makes an impression that is both investigative and self-indulgent.
  • Bones - The Bone Hunter : With Hill as Bones and Giermann as Seeley Booth. Bones is parodied here as extremely cold-hearted. The two also use the other's name in almost every sentence and emphasize it.
  • Börse im Erste : Martina Hill quotes as Anja Kohl with various language errors (P instead of B, T instead of D and K instead of G) in the ARD stock exchange mostly insignificant or invented (nonsense) proverbs or poems with a sexist background, is the name of the audience in the middle She welcomed her speech casually and ended her speech with the words: “It's no different at Ter Pörse. Pis tomorrow! “In addition, the daily developments of the stock exchange run through the picture at the bottom of the picture. However, the companies are parodies (for example, Microsoft became “microsoftporn”). In the background, the curve of a stock market crash is shown, for which the display board is insufficient, which is why it is extended downwards with paper.
  • CSI: Miami : With Kessler as Horatio Caine and Giermann as Delko. Horatio is always concerned with something completely different when he visits the crime scene, while his colleague Delko tries to explain to him what really happened. Horatio often finds banal things at the crime scene worse than the actual crime. A running gag is that Horatio puts his sunglasses on and takes off after every camera shot, regardless of where he is.
  • The current sports studio : Nadolny as presenter Katrin Müller-Hohenstein and Giermann as football expert Oliver Kahn ; Giermann is a more frequent interviewee than Joachim Löw . Mostly Müller-Hohenstein's exaggeratedly amicable dealings with Kahn and his disparaging attitude towards her are discussed.
  • The Schwakowiak couple: Nottmeier as Herbert Schwakowiak and Sharma as Melanie Schwakowiak appear as socially critical parodies in many programs (e.g. Taff , Frauentausch , The Perfect Dinner , Goodbye Germany, etc.). In addition, Herbert is often RTL-aktuell cell phone reporter in the third season . They have not been seen since season four due to Sharma's departure.
  • The super talent : With jury members Dieter Bohlen (Giermann), Bruce Darnell (Hoëcker) and Sylvie van der Vaart (Hill). There the castings of the show are parodied. • The bull from Tölz : with Hoëcker in a fat suit as Ottfried Fischer .
  • The 10 ... : with Susanne Pätzold as Sonja Zietlow . In the clips, parodied celebrities give comments on the contributions, as in the original. Most of the time the consequences have nonsensical topics, such as "The 10 most beautiful colors" or "The 10 most beautiful poetry album slogans". During the presentations, the camera settings change to the left or to the right.
  • The Geissens : Most of the time, situations are presented as they also occur in the real broadcast between Robert (Klempnow) and Carmen Geiss (Hill). Carmen calls her husband "Rooooobert" all the time.
  • The hit giants : Giermann parodies Hugo Egon Balder , who in his show z. B. brings the charts from the 12th century.
  • The Ludolfs - 4 brothers in the scrap yard : Here Günter (Müller) and Peter (Hoëcker) Ludolf are parodied. They advise callers, including Lothar Matthäus looking for a new girlfriend or the CIA interrogating a suspect. Both act particularly slowly and Peter often falls asleep in his chair, although Günter is talking to him.
  • The perfect minute : Nadolny parodies Ulla Kock am Brink in her Sat.1 game show.
  • The super nanny : Susanne Pätzold parodies Katharina Saalfrank . She mostly has prominent patients, but she also visits fictional characters like Michel from Lönneberga or Pippi Longstocking .

  • DSF - The Sports Quiz : The presenter Cheyenne Lacroix is parodied by Bernhard Hoëcker. He often plays nonsensical games with the audience (e.g. letters with O). His standard saying is "The next time I get the correct answer, I'll pull it blank!" He wears nipple glue on his nipples.
  • Galileo Mystery : Aiman Abdallah (Hoëcker) investigates trivial things in a cumbersome way, e.g. B. his expense report, which is way too high, or his car that disappeared from the disabled parking lot. He comments on all of this as "mysterious". In addition, the Illuminati or the Pius Brotherhood are often associated with the "cases". His helpers are Jochen Voit (Kessler) and Sibel Balta (Hill). The Galileo offshoot Galileo Big Pictures is also parodied.
  • Ingeniously by the way : with Giermann as Hugo Egon Balder and changing prominent guests. Since parodist Bernhard Hoëcker is also represented in the Genial-beside-Ensemble, Nottmeier himself parodied him. Original permanent guest Hella von Sinnen has never been shown, instead Cindy from Marzahn (Pätzold) sat in her seat .
  • Germany's next top model : Martina Hill parodies Heidi Klum with a beeping voice and the tendency not to be allowed to eat. The jury members Peyman Amin (Nottmeier), Rolf Scheider (Müller) and Bruce Darnell (Hoëcker), later Kristian Schuller (Müller) and Qualid "Q" Laadra (Nottmeier) and Thomas Rath (Nottmeier) and Thomas Hayo (Müller) on. • Guido Westerwelle's press conference: Alluding to the press conference after the 2009 Bundestag elections, when an English journalist asked him a question and the Foreign Minister replied: “If you would be so kind as to ask this question in German, since this is a German press conference!” Later Westerwelle was also used in other formats, e.g. B. at Goodbye Germany , where he opens a pub on Mallorca , or Solitary, where he is locked in a room as a celebrity with others and has to solve tasks.
  • Günther Jauch : with Kessler as Günther Jauch . Jauch invited various guests in his television program, mostly politicians, but also his “rival” Thomas Gottschalk (played by Hoëcker). There are repeated references to Jauch's fixation on his moderation cards.
  • Tough but fair : Kessler parodies the moderator Frank Plasberg with the permanent guests Angela Merkel (Hill), Frank-Walter Steinmeier (Müller) and Gregor Gysi (Nottmeier) - along with unmentioned secondary characters, one of whom is always knocked out by Plasberg with the comment: "That was tough ... but fair."
  • Today-Journal : with Michael Müller as Claus Kleber and Martina Hill as Gundula Gause . The names of the two are usually played here, with all actors having first and last names that begin with the same letter, such as the mad reporter Karla Kolumna . Since the real Today Journal has a virtual studio, the parody has always played with the fact that graphics and computer errors occur during the broadcast. Before that, the parody was mostly about Kleber trying to meet Gause after a show.
  • Ina's night : with Hill as Ina Müller . She receives numerous celebrities in her program and is noticeable by excessively loud laughing and singing as well as enormous alcohol consumption.
  • Joachim Bublath: Joachim Bublath (played by Hoëcker) tries to explain terms to his audience with mostly senseless facts and neglected processes (e.g. fire) in the background. What is noticeable here is a constant, mostly inappropriate stagnation.
  • Johannes B. Kerner : Nottmeier plays Johannes B. Kerner, who attracts attention through constant self-praise and surreptitious advertising.
  • KiKA tree house: Hoëcker parodies KiKA presenter Juri Tetzlaff , who talks to the owl Bubu in a tree house, to whose imaginary questions he answers with infantile care, and shows children's drawings. The dialogues are mostly unsuitable for children, for example it is about violence, drugs or Hoëcker's attempt to kill the owl. Occasionally the children whose drawings are shown are insulted as being retarded. One of the drawings said “Yuri sucks” and he insulted the child with the same expression. The original broadcast is shown in front of Our Sandman every day .
  • Lafer, Lichter, Lecker : Kessler and Giermann moderate with various guests such as B. Katja Burkard (Hill) or Nina Hagen (Nadolny). At the beginning there is always a long kiss between Kessler and Giermann, and afterwards they often laugh at their own jokes. These are mostly sexist and misogynistic. The dishes served by the chefs are also striking. For example, Lichter always uses lots of butter and Lafer has very unusual names for his dishes.
  • Lasko - The Faust of God : Giermann parodies Lasko with Hoëcker as Gladius and Kessler as Magnus. Mainly Magnus' greeting of the main characters and the attitude of the Catholic Church to sexuality serve as running gags.
  • Read! : Petra Nadolny parodies Elke Heidenreich , who is bullied by her colleagues and whose book descriptions often contain complete nonsense or complex relationships. Since Heidenreich lost her slot on ZDF in real life, Heidenreich has always been looking for recognition on TV at Switch (e.g. super talent or jungle camp).
  • Let's Dance : Martina Hill and Max Giermann as Nazan Eckes and Daniel Hartwich . Hartwich often makes funny jokes, at which Eckes laughs and says "It's only available with a Let's a dance".

He usually disguised himself as an object (e.g. as a doormat) "undercover". He never lets his guests finish.
  • In the middle of life: Parody of the pseudo-docu-soap of the same name: The focus is always on the 20-year-old Dennis (Klempnow), a solarium-brown day thief who only wears clothes by Ed Hardy and spends the day at his Playstation. He lives with his girlfriend Larissa (Hill) with his grandmother Claudia (Nadolny). All three mostly sit in front of the television, smoking. Dennis is almost always in some kind of trouble, skipping vocational school or cheating on eBay .
  • Monk : Peter Nottmeier as Monk brings the trace investigators to despair with his quirks.
  • N24 News / Weather: with Martina Hill as Tatjana Ohm and Susanne Pätzold as the weather fairy Miriam Pede . When looking into the studio before the show, Ohm does inappropriate things (e.g. she blows her hair), some of which reappear in the show, presents nonsensical news, speaks very quickly, hisses in and shows her bust size very conspicuously. At the beginning, Pede does not notice that it is already on the air and presents little meaningful weather forecasts. The news and stock market treadmills also contain parodies. Ohm always ends the news with a program reference to a documentary and with the words: "And don't worry, if you haven't noticed something, I'll say the whole thing 23 times here today."
  • Low and Kuhnt - Commissioners determine : Müller as Bernie Kuhnt and Hill as Conny low . The poor acting performances of the amateur actors are parodied in the original.

The parody ends at the end of the fourth season with the lost World War of the Germans, Hitler leaves Obersalzberg disguised as Stromberg. Since the 6th season, the characters have been used for the parody Goodbye Großdeutschland , in which Adolf Hitler, Ernie and others try to open a schnitzel restaurant in Argentina.
  • Paranormal Activity : The horror film has been parodied a lot in the newer seasons. In contrast to the original, no “nightmare moments” are listed here, but rather interesting, senseless or humorous scenarios (e.g. the woman beats her sleeping husband with a baseball bat in the middle of the night).
  • Popstars : The jury members of popstars like Detlef D! Soost (Giermann), Nina Hagen (Nadolny), Jane Comerford (Hill) and Dieter Falk (Kessler) parodied.
  • QVC : Hadiya Hohmann , played by Mona Sharma, presents more or less sensible objects (e.g. a “tongue pearl” as jewelry or a set for making chestnut animals) in home shopping style.
  • Rach, the restaurant tester : with Max Giermann as Christian Rach . Christian Rach visits places that are not doing well for “inexplicable” reasons, such as a beer garden that doesn't serve beer or a French restaurant where even the simplest dishes cost a fortune. What is parodied about Rach in particular is his eye-catching hand movements and pronunciation.
  • Out of debt : with Peter Nottmeier as Peter Zwegat . In contrast to the parody by Katharina Saalfrank , Peter Zwegat does not meet celebrities (apart from the management of the broadcaster ARD ), but rather “unemployed unemployed”, pimps, average people with astonishingly high debts and his wife, who has no debt problem at all . At the beginning of each sketch, the speaker makes a statement about Zwegat's motive: “Peter Zwegat is not about profit; Peter Zwegat just want to be on TV. Furthermore, von der Groeben passed on from the previous disaster report with the words “... is / are nothing compared to ...” to the sports news, whereupon von Kloeppel said: “That's true. We come to the weather with Christian Häckl. ”Is interrupted, which is supposed to highlight the discrimination of Ulrike von der Groeben by Peter Kloeppel.
  • RTL Formula 1 : Here Kai Ebel (Klempnow) reports. Kai Ebel stands out for his fashionably very eye-catching clothes, which are usually too tight, so that Ebel's belly is visible. In addition, Ebel speaks very poor English, in which he also incorporates German terms when he cannot think of English (examples: Buy something or sparet., Can you give me a little attention?). It is noticeable that only Kai Ebel, but not Niki Lauda, is parodied. Lauda has already been parodied by Hoëcker, but not in Formula 1.
  • RTL Punkt 12 : Katja Burkard played by Martina Hill. Burkard's sibilant speech defect is parodied and phrases with accumulated sibilants are used, for example “Two cute baby seals were born in Soest Zoo”. Likewise, Hill mostly uses adjectives like “sweet” at the beginning in connection with news images that often show disasters or the corpses of people and animals.
  • RTL Shop : Max Giermann stupidly and hyperactively parodies Walter Freiwald , who, together with a female companion, presents various, completely overpriced products, such as a toolbox for women or the Spanish specialty basket “Cojones”. However, the products themselves take a back seat, as almost every one of his comments has sexual innuendos.

  • Solitary - defeat yourself : with Martina Hill as presenter Sonya Kraus and as the voice of Alice. Various celebrities are shown who compete in Solitary. Some of the parodies actually took part in Solitary in the original ( Martin Kesici ).
  • Sonnenschein.TV: a parody of the holiday channel Sonnenklar.TV with Susanne Pätzold or Bernhard Hoëcker as moderators who, while slowly moving the camera, have to keep fighting against disappearing from the picture. There are questionable travel offers such as a vacation in the slums of India or a hotel in which the era of National Socialism is glorified.
  • Sports show : Günter Netzer (Nottmeier) and Gerhard Delling (Müller) outperform each other with “compliments”, whereby Netzer always tends to be absolutely pessimistic, while Delling constantly tries to scratch his mark on Netzer. • Toto & Harry : Michael Müller and Peter Nottmeier parody the inspectors from the well-known docu-soap. They are called to operations that occur frequently in everyday police operations (e.g. disturbance of the peace, riot, etc.). Instead of solving the case, they give the viewer long explanations of how to proceed in such a situation. In the sketches, however, there are also completely inconspicuous situations, such as the torture of a couple in a game by Saw , which Toto and Harry consider to be a marital dispute.
  • ttt - title, theses, spirits : Michael Müller philosophizes as Dieter Moor from season 5 towards the end of each episode. The subject of his considerations is always the fictional "action artist" Traugott Wemske .
  • TV total : Max Giermann parodies Stefan Raab , who with sentences like “What was going on? You don't know. ”Or“ Sooo, ladies and gentlemen… ”is quoted and most of the audience does not laugh at whose jokes, and if a single laugh is heard, it is immediately warned to be quiet with a“ Psssst! ” .

He is particularly noticeable through discriminatory (often xenophobic or anti-handicap) statements and the inflationary use of the word “Hey!”. Kessler also emphasizes very often that the show is actually only seen by old women, and tells jokes that only he laughs at. Furthermore, the same musicians always appear in the program (but under different names who are often sexually offensive, e.g. Seidlheimer Sodomists) who have various physical and mental disabilities as a result of inbreeding . Every time they sing Bavarian, almost identical texts to the same melody.
  • Full pot : Max Giermann parodies Ingo Nommsen . This is noticed by constant grinning and being happy. In another program, a live presenter sits in the hot seat and calls her colleague Jürgen Milski so that in the end they ask each other questions and do not understand the other person.
  • Knowledge before eight : Kessler parodies Ranga Yogeshwar here . Every time he walks through an old, abandoned factory and explains some things in such a way that the viewer has no use. particularities

  • Parodists met the original personalities several times: After a few appearances on Switch reloaded as Stefan Raab, Max Giermann was allowed to parody Stefan Raab once on his TV show for a total of around five minutes. On December 13, 2007, Michael Kessler and Florian Silbereisen stood together in front of the camera as guests of Johannes B. Kerner on ZDF . In the anniversary broadcast of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on September 25, 2009, Michael Kessler was shown parodying Günther Jauch in a clip. Finally met in the Wetten, dass ..? Broadcast from January 23, 2010 Martina Hill on Heidi Klum . In addition, Max Giermann welcomed some of the parodied celebrities in his program Granaten like us , so he parodied Kai Pflaume, whom he had guest in the same episode. Tim Mälzer and Hugo Egon Balder also met their respective alter egos there .
  • The parody of Joachim Bublath was first broadcast after the broadcast of the same name had already been discontinued.
  • At the German Comedy Award 2008, Max Giermann - parodying Stefan Raab - surprised the audience as a laudator. Moderator Dieter Nuhr had previously announced him as Stefan Raab . Reactions of the parodied

Many parodied celebrities take up their parody with humor and find it well done. These include Stefan Raab, who even invited Max Giermann to appear on his show in his parody. Hugo Egon Balder and Tim Mälzer also carry their parody with humor. Sonya Kraus, Katja Burkard and Daniela Katzenberger have also commented positively on their parody of Martina Hill, Daniela Katzenberger even in her program Naturally Blond . Heidi Klum, also parodied by Hill, likes her parody, like in Wetten, dass ..? admitted. Michael Kessler also received good reviews from his star roles Florian Silbereisen, Ranga Yogeshwar and Günther Jauch. Peter Kloeppel sees himself as being parodied well. The Ludolfs also take their parody with humor and enjoy it. Emily Whigham and Marko Bagic of Apps Night announced on Facebook that they were honored to be parodied by switch.

However, there are also negative reactions from celebrities. So has Katharina Saalfrank their switch parody not fallen by Susanne Pätzold, it found itself by Anke Engelke in gesture "very precisely to the point" parodies and language.
