Automobiles Mors was a French company from Paris that manufactured automobiles and racing cars. The racing cars achieved great success at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Company history

In 1851, Mr Mirand started a company on rue Saint-Martin in Paris to produce artificial flowers. For this he used paper and wire. In 1874 Louis Mors took over the company. Motors emerged later. In 1895, with the help of Henri Brasier, automobile production began. The company was now called Société d'Électricité et d'Automobiles Mors . In 1908 it was renamed Société Nouvelle d'Automobiles Mors . Mors obtained many bodies in the years before the First World War from J. Rothschild & Fils . The company passed to Citroën in 1925 . Between 1941 and 1943 a few electric cars were built in a small branch of the company.

On August 5, 1902, a Mors Z was the first car with an internal combustion engine to break the land speed record from electric cars and steam cars .

The Frenchman Emile Mors entered the race Marseille-La Turbie in 1897 for the first time in his race car.

Camille Jenatzy began his racing career on Mors, he finished seventh in the Tour de France for automobiles in 1899 .

From 1898 Levegh drove for the team. At first they were inferior to their rivals Panhard & Levassor , but Mors was able to celebrate a superior victory at Paris-Toulouse-Paris in 1900 .

With Henri Fournier's victory at Paris-Berlin in 1901 and Fernand Gabriel's success in the abandoned Paris-Madrid race in 1903 , the team was able to win two more important races from the early days of motorsport.

Charles Stewart Rolls sold the French cars in the UK and he succeeded in a race in Phoenix Park of Dublin in 1903, a brief world record at 93 mph (150 km / h) on a Mors.

The team then began to decline, and the new 12.8 liter car disappointed at the 1908 French GP . A planned comeback a few years later was prevented by the outbreak of the First World War .
