Under various different names depending on the market, now mostly as Renault Symbol is of Renault one on since mid-1999 Renault Clio offered based notchback version. The model is mainly sold in North Africa , the Middle East , Turkey , Eastern Europe and North and Central America . Occasionally, vehicles were also sold in France and Germany, but the model was never officially available here. The Renault 7 , which was produced from the end of 1974 to the beginning of 1983 and was also a notchback version of the Renault 5 of that time, can be regarded as its predecessor .
Names
In Argentina, the first generation of the vehicle was sold as the Renault Clio GNC . In Brazil, the name of the models built there was initially Renault Clio Sedan , later Renault Clio Classic . In Tunisia, the sales name Renault Clio Classic was also chosen. In Turkey and Mexico the car was called Renault Clio Symbol , in Peru and Venezuela the name was shortened to Renault Symbol. In Poland the car was sold as Renault Thalia . The model is marketed as Renault Clio Tricorps by the Nigerian CFAO Group .
With the second generation, the number of names was significantly reduced. The nickname Clio has been omitted throughout. In Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary it is still called Thalia, more precisely Thalia II . In all other countries it is now marketed as the Renault symbol .
A closely related model was available in the Central and South American markets from spring 2002 to mid-2008 as the Nissan Platina .
history
The first generation of the vehicle is based on the Renault Clio II . The models were produced in Argentina , Brazil , Colombia , Mexico , Turkey , Poland , Algeria and Nigeria . Because of its low price and large trunk volume, the model was particularly popular in emerging countries.
A model upgrade for the Clio-based phase II with larger headlights and new engines took place in all markets in spring 2002 . This model continues to be produced in Venezuela and Nigeria. In all other markets there has been a new model based on the Renault Clio III under new names since summer 2008 . Unlike its predecessor, it now has a completely unique design.

The third generation of the Renault Symbol was presented at the Istanbul Motor Show 2012. It is identical to the Dacia Logan and is built in Bursa , Turkey. In some markets, the vehicle is also sold as the Renault Logan .
