Kim |
Kim (김) is the most common family name in Korea , derived from the Chinese "Jin" (金) for gold, metal. When this character is not used as a surname, it is spelled and spoken in Korean "geum" (금). It should be noted that “Kim” is actually pronounced more like “Gim”, but when defining the transcription it was agreed on this spelling, as this was more natural for Americans and the sound in Korean is pronounced “emphatically” and therefore between g and k seems to lie.
In Germany and Austria around 1500 families bear this name. These are mainly immigrants, guest students or guest workers from Korea. According to a statistical analysis based on family books, there were around 10,000 Kims in Korea in 500.
