Gustavo Ferrín had called up 27 players in his provisional squad and waived the services of Flávio . With Ary ( CD Primeiro de Agosto ), Mabiná ( Atlético Petróleos Luanda ), Paty ( GD Interclube ) and Ito ( Progresso Associação do Sambizanga ) four players from the domestic league missed the leap into the final line-up. Rachid Taoussi called 24 players into his provisional squad, which did not include many players from last year's squad, including striker Marouane Chamakh , former captain Houssine Kharja and, for disciplinary reasons, playmaker Adel Taarabt . Defender Youness Bellakhder ( FAR Rabat ) had to cancel due to an injury, and Abdelatif Noussir was nominated for him . Abdelilah Hafidi was initially deleted from the provisional squad, but Hafidi was still in the tournament due to an injury to Mehdi Namli shortly before the start of the tournament.

Group B

Ghana

Coach James Kwesi Appiah's 26-man provisional squad was announced on December 13th. The former team captain John Mensah , who had been without a club since mid-2012, and Jordan Ayew , for whom non-sporting reasons were suspected by the media for not being considered, were not taken into account. Michael Essien asked not to be nominated for the tournament. On January 7, midfielder André Ayew was removed from the squad because he did not join the national team in time for a medical examination. Defender Rashid Sumaila ( Asante Kotoko ) was the last player to miss the league table after striker Yahaya Mohammed ( Amidaus Professionals ) had to cancel his participation due to an injury.

Mali

Patrice Carteron called 28 players into his provisional squad in early January. This became Mahamadou Diarra ( Fulham FC ), Abdou Traoré ( Girondins Bordeaux ), Mustapha Yatabaré ( EA Guingamp ) and Tongo Doumbia ( Wolverhampton Wanderers ), all of whom could not take part in the last week of the preparations, as well as goalkeeper Germain Berthé ( Onze Créateurs de Niaréla ) was deleted. Initially, the participation of Mamadou Samassa , for whom Mana Dembélé ( Clermont Foot ) had already been called up to the training camp, was questionable, but a faster than expected recovery ensured Samassa's inclusion in the final squad.

National coach Stephen Keshi called up a 32-player provisional squad for a training camp in Faro on December 21 . Strikers Peter Odemwingie and Obafemi Martins and defender Taye Taiwo were not taken into account . Defender Danny Shittu only joined the squad after talks between the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation and Keshi. With Rabiu Ibrahim and Kenneth Omeruo , two players working abroad have been nominated who have not yet played an A international for Nigeria. A little later Shittu asked the association in writing not to consider him for the tournament; Shola Ameobi did not react to the nomination after his club coach Alan Pardew had previously announced that Ameobi would not participate in the Africa Cup. The first players from the training camp were Rabiu Ibrahim and, due to injury, Uche Kalu as well as the two subsequently nominated domestic players Papa Idris and Henry Uche, who were prematurely removed from the squad. A little later, Daniel Akpeyi , Bright Dike , Raheem Lawal , Benjamin Francis and Solomon Kwambe also missed the leap into the final squad .

Coach Hervé Renard called 26 players into the provisional squad of the defending champions . From last year's squad only Clifford Mulenga and Nyambe Mulenga were not considered. The initially also nominated striker Evans Kangwa was canceled a little later because of the strong competition in the storm and a possible move to Europe and Shadreck Malambo was nominated again. Chintu Kampamba , Saulani Phiri and Malambo , who had been injured for a long time, did not make it into the final squad from the provisional squad .
