AD was a British car brand.

Brand history

1979 Dave Perry founded the company in Perry Automotive Developments in Brightlingsea in the county of Essex . In 1981 the production of automobiles and kits began . The brand name was u. a. AD . The liquidation in 1982 was followed by a re-establishment as Automotive Design & Developments . The company's headquarters were temporarily in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex at the time and later again in Brightlingsea. In 1984 Perry ended production.

Ferranté Cars , later renamed Trident Autovet , from Peterborough under the direction of Robert Pepper continued the production of a model as a complete vehicle from 1984 to 1986. Production of another model was continued by John Phillips of Daytona Classics of Clacton-on-Sea from 1985 to about 1987. The brand name AD was retained.

This was the replica of the AC Cobra . Perry sold fifteen copies of these between 1981 and 1983. RW Kitcars from Melton Mowbray under the direction of Roger Woolley continued production under the brand name RW .

The AD 400 was the extended version of the Karma . The basis was its own chassis. A four-cylinder engine from the Ford Cortina powered the vehicle. After returning to Brightlingsea, the model was named Magnum . Perry sold four coupes and one roadster between 1982 and 1984 . Ferranté Cars and Trident Autovet called this model Chimera and manufactured it from 1984 to 1986. A total of about eleven copies were made.

At the request of customers, Perry produced a copy of a replica of a Dino 206 GT from 1981 . The basis was a Lotus Europa . Series production only began at Daytona Classics in 1985. About five copies were made by about 1987. JH Classics and later Deon Cars continued production under the Deon brand name .

This model was manufactured by Daytona Classics, although it remains unclear whether the brand name was AD or 204 . It was a replica of a dinosaur model as a coupe. Around 22 copies were made between 1986 and 1987.

AD karma

Perry imported ten kits of her model GT from Kelmark Engineering in the USA . The original had the chassis and rear engine from the VW Beetle . After that Perry also offered their own versions with front engine of the Ford Cortina and mid-engine - V8 of Rover on. Perry sold 350 copies by 1983, and RW Kitcars another 795 by 2000, which were marketed as RW .
