When Hofmann and Hoffmann were referred to the tenant of a farmhouse or the landlords to services committed farmers , sometimes a courtier . The old Franconian name Huber is related . Hobemann is the Hessian variant and Havemann / Hamann is Low German. Hoffmann was the most common professional name in Silesia, roughly corresponding to the West and South German Meier, i.e. estate manager at stately courts, including on patrician estates.
