List of steam locomotives in Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of steam locomotives in Germany does not claim to be complete. Even if there are still many examples of some series , this should not hide the sometimes very poor condition of many of the preserved steam locomotives . Locomotives that have been partially dismantled and have been severely attacked by corrosivity are also recorded, as the technical condition can hardly be assessed correctly through pictures or descriptions. For fireless steam locomotives, see the list of steam storage locomotives available in Germany .

Replicas

Replicas of historical vehicles that cannot be assigned to any series. Other original vehicles of the early railroad can be found in the list under standard gauge / 1435 mm

Series 03

The 03 series vehicles were built between 1930 and 1937 as express locomotives for routes that were only suitable for axle loads of up to 18 t.

Series 03.0–2

The lower weight of this 2-cylinder Pacific , based on the 01 series , was achieved with a lighter bar frame , smaller boiler and smaller cylinders. From 03 123 the pumps were moved to the center of the vehicle and from 03 163 the locomotives had scissor brakes and larger bogie wheels with a diameter of 1000 mm - instead of 850 mm.

The class 43 was the second locomotive series that was created based on the principle of the standard locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. The two-cylinder locomotives were supplied by Henschel and Schwartzkopff . Some DB locomotives of the 44 series were also given EDP numbers in the 043 range, but cannot be assigned to the DR series 43.

The class 44 locomotives were standard freight train steam locomotives with a triple drive. Both the DB and the DR converted some of the vehicles to oil firing, at the DB on EDP no. 043 recognizable, at the DR by a company number 44.0. 22 DR locomotives were converted to the Wendler coal dust firing system (EDP number 44.9). Some DR locomotives got oil after the dismantling? Coal used as PmH (heating locomotives) and no longer received a "coal number"; the last known company number is entered here as the EDP number.

600 mm

Industrial and light railways in Germany mostly run on a 600 millimeter gauge. But there were also several small railways that used this gauge. From these the forest railway Muskau and the Mecklenburg-Pomerania narrow-gauge railway were taken over by the DR, whose locomotives were thus also given numbers according to the DR scheme.

Standard gauge

The list includes all standard gauge locomotives - regional, industrial and private railroad locomotives of all eras without DR license plates. The locomotives can be re-sorted according to different criteria. These locomotives can also correspond to state railroad designs, be replicas of state railroad designs or were supplied as catalog types from different locomotive factories. The ELNA locomotives are also included in this list . ELNA stands for 'Narrower Locomotive Standards Committee', which in 1921 developed six locomotive types for different types of use with similar spare parts for small and private railways as well as industrial railways. The replicas of the Adler, Saxonia and Beuth locomotives can be found under replicas .
