John Alexander (born April 16, 1777 in Crowsville , Spartanburg County , South Carolina , † June 28, 1848 in Xenia , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Republican Party . From 1813 to 1817 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the second  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Alexander was born in Crowsville. After attending public schools, he moved to Miamisburg in 1803 . He studied law ; however, the location is not known. After he was admitted to the bar in 1804, he moved to Xenia in 1805 and opened a law firm there. He was involved in several negotiations at the Supreme Court of the United States . In 1808 he was appointed public prosecutor , which he held until 1833.

As a representative of the Democratic Republican Party, he sat from 1813 to 1817 for the 2nd District of Ohio in the US House of Representatives. He was the first representative of the 2nd district, as this only existed from 1813. Alexander ran for re-election but had to admit defeat to John Wilson Campbell . After leaving the House , he returned to practice as a lawyer and attorney. He served in the Ohio Senate from 1822 to 1824 ; he served in the Ohio House of Representatives for two terms. In 1834 he retired into private life. He died in Xenia in 1848 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery .
