William McMillan (politician)

William McMillan (born March 2, 1764 in Abingdon , Virginia Colony , † May 1804 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) was an American lawyer and politician (non-party). From 1800 to 1801, he was a delegate of the Northwest Territory in the House of Representatives of the United States .

biography

William McMillan was born in Washington County in what is now the state of Virginia . He studied law at the College of William & Mary . In 1787 he moved to Fort Washington, today's Cincinnati. A year later he was admitted to the bar. He opened a law firm in Cincinnati. From 1799 to 1800 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the Northwest Territory for Hamilton County .

As the successor to William Henry Harrison , McMillan was 1800 delegate of the Northwest Territory in the US House of Representatives. He did not stand as a candidate in the 1800 congressional elections . After Ohio became a US state in 1803, he was appointed the first federal attorney for the Ohio District. For health reasons, however, he actually did not exercise his office.

McMillan died in Cincinnati in May 1804. He was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery .
