The Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried area has been a designated nature reserve since 1941 (NSG number 4.028) in the Baden-Württemberg districts of Ravensburg and Sigmaringen in Germany . Due to the currently valid ordinance of the Tübingen regional council of February 21, 2017, the nature reserve was re-ordained and significantly expanded.
The nature reserve is part of the FFH area Pfrunger Ried and Lakes near Illmensee and the bird sanctuary Pfrunger and Burgweiler Ried .
location
Which today numbers around 1,015 hectare nature reserve Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried is one natural area to the Upper Swabian hills . It is located about three kilometers south of the center of Ostrach and adjoins Wilhelmsdorf immediately to the northwest . It lies at an altitude of about 610 m above sea level. NHN and is distributed over the four municipalities of Königseggwald (47.4 ha), Ostrach (864.6 ha), Riedhausen (89.4 ha) and Wilhelmsdorf (506.6 ha).
It thus encompasses the majority of the Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried moor and wetland area of the same name .
meaning
The "Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried" is a high-quality wetland area , which is the habitat of numerous protected plants and a spacious habitat, resting, grazing and nesting area for many bird species included in the Red List .
The diversity of fauna (number of different animal species in a landscape area), the diversity of flora (number of different plant species in a landscape area) and the diversity of vegetation (number of different plant communities in a landscape area) make the reed particularly worthy of protection.
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is according to the Protection Area Ordinance
- “The preservation of one of the most important moorland areas in southern Germany as a habitat for a species-rich, characteristic and sometimes highly endangered animal and plant world and as a resting area for endangered bird species;
- the preservation and optimization of the near-natural bog complexes and regeneration of the degraded bog areas in the core zone with the aim of promoting self-regulatory developments, the preservation and optimization of the agriculturally used grassland areas of the maintenance and extensification zone as a habitat for a characteristic fauna and food biotope of endangered bird species;
- the preservation and development of the habitats of European importance occurring in the protected area, which are listed in Annex I of the Habitats Directive;
- the preservation and development of the habitats of the species of European importance occurring in the protected area, which are listed in Annex II of the Habitats Directive, the preservation and development of the habitats of the bird species of European importance occurring in the nature reserve [...];
- the preservation of the moor area as an object of great scientific interest;
- the preservation of the attractive landscape of the Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried, which is characterized by grassland and forest stands. "

In the Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried, animal species can be found that are otherwise rarely found. Amphibians in particular , the most endangered species of animals, benefited from the bog. Birds such as the common snipe , whinchat or black stork can be observed. In addition, there has been a beaver population in the reed since 2005 - verifiably since October 2008.
