District reforms in Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The article District reforms in Austria covers the area reforms carried out at the district level, i.e. the statutory cities and political districts in the area of today's Austria, as well as the parts that no longer belong to Austria, since the existence of the district authorities in their current form, i.e. 1868, for Burgenland 1922 the former Kronländer Tyrol , Styria , Carinthia and Lower Austria . In addition, the reclassifications of municipalities and localities to other districts are shown, but not mere reclassifications of individual properties, even if these are published in the law gazette. For each country , a list shows when and how the number of statutory cities and districts has changed (only in the text, but not in the tables, the mostly only provisional affiliations during the German occupation, which did not make the district structure sustainable have influenced). The states are to be understood in a geographical sense, the lists and tables thus include the former crown lands, the federal states of the first and second republic and the Reichsgaue at the time of German occupation.

The terms such as integration or enlargement do not refer to the legal situation, but to the generally accepted regulation. Often it is a matter of amalgamations , which are nevertheless not understood as such by the majority of the population, even in the integrated district . Therefore, the continuation or the reassignment of a name is the decisive criterion here. The legal regulation, whether it is an amalgamation or an incorporation / incorporation or has acted, is only of immediate importance. After a few years it is meaningless. Reference is made to specific articles where further information can be found.

Sometimes (especially in connection with territorial changes after wars) it happened that the actual change (taking over the administration by another authority) did not take place at the same time as the legal change. As far as this can be proven, both dates are given, but the chronological breakdown is based on the actual change.
