List of German license plates that are no longer issued

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A canceled indicator: OLD of the former Oldenburg district in Holstein

This list of German vehicle registration numbers that are no longer issued includes all distinguishing marks of the Federal Republic of Germany that were introduced from July 1, 1956, but are no longer assigned in general or in the specified registration districts and therefore expire or have already expired .

The distinctive signs largely correspond to those that are legally regarded as repealed within the meaning of Section 8 (2) of the Vehicle Registration Ordinance.

Most of the characters are no longer assigned because the relevant approval district was dissolved as part of a regional reform . However, some characters have also been replaced by new characters, because today the character is derived from the name of the district, while it was previously derived from the district town.

For license plates of the German Reich and the Federal Republic of Germany before 1956 as well as the GDR see list of German license plates (historical) , for planned license plates of the Federal Republic for a possible reunification within the borders of 1937 see east zone directory of German license plates .

Hints

  • Distinguishing signs that have expired but are issued in at least one registration district as part of the license plate liberalization are indicated in italics .
  • Distinguishing signs that are valid in at least one licensing district, but not in the other listed licensing districts, are given in normal type.
  • Distinguishing signs that are not currently issued in any licensing district are shown in bold .

The footnotes refer to the reason why the respective distinguishing mark is not valid in the specified approval districts.

Footnotes

1 The issuance of marks with this distinguishing mark has not been applied for or has not been approved in this registration district.
2 The issue of labels with this distinguishing mark is not possible according to the national legal provisions.
3 During a transitional period of several years, the distinguishing mark was only valid for part of the given district.
4th The output of labels with this distinguishing mark is not possible here because these have not been approved by the successor group.
5The issuance of labels with this distinctive sign is not yet possible according to state law. We aim to change this regulation
6thThe distinguishing mark was reassigned later, see p. List of license plates in Germany .
7thThe Hanover region has been the legal successor to the Hanover district since 2001 .
8thThe valid distinguishing mark specified for the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald is not assigned by the latter (use of an option granted by the state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania), but is indicated as a valid distinguishing mark in the registers of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).
9The distinctive sign specified for the Rotenburg district in Hanover was no longer assigned after the district's name was changed and was replaced by the abbreviation ROW. In 1995, the last car driver with ROH signs was allowed to exchange them for ROW signs free of charge.
10The distinctive sign VS was used in 1972 for the Villingen-Schwenningen district .
11 The distinguishing mark has been applied for, it has not yet been issued.
12According to Federal Law Gazette 1956 I p. 271 §23 para. 2 (p. 301) annex. 1 (p. 303) (Federal Law Gazette I p. 1166?) Issued, whether the issue took place is uncertain.
