There are several hundred national parks in Australia . Most of them are subordinate to the governments of the respective states; only a small number of parks are managed by the Federal Government's Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities .

National parks

In 1924 Cobourg, now known as Garig Gunak Barlu National Park, was declared the first national park in the Northern Territory . Today there are 20 national parks in the Northern Territory with a total area of ​​5,931,645 hectares, which is about 4.41% of the total area of ​​the state. Queensland
