The most commercially successful artist in Germany is Helene Fischer for the fifth time . As in the previous year, Ed Sheeran is also internationally successful .
The year 2018 also marked the death of the print media in the music scene. One after the other, the magazines NME , Groove , Intro and, most recently, Spex discontinued their publication in magazine form.

- With 21 weeks at the top of the chart, song 079 by the Bernese dialect duo Lo & Leduc sets a new all-time record in the Swiss charts. Already in the 11th week it became the most successful Swiss title of all time and probably overtook the previous top runners Grüezi, Ms. Stirnimaa! from the Minstrels and Chihuahua from DJ BoBo .
- With the 20th week at the top, Perfect moved with Despacito from Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee as the longest song at the top in the history of the Swiss hit parade.

- January 1st: The 78th New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic was conducted by Riccardo Muti . The concert was broadcast in 95 countries.
- March 7th: The venerable British music magazine New Musical Express (NME) discontinued its print edition after 66 years.
- April 12: After Kollegah and Farid Bang received the Echo , a long-lasting debate about anti-Semitism in their texts ensued . Several artists returned their echoes. At the end of the debate came the end of the Echos music award, which was set by the Federal Association of the Music Industry .
- September 9: Under the name We are more , a sign against right-wing violence is set in Chemnitz after the previous riots . Around 65,000 people come to the free concert to protest peacefully. Performing bands and artists include Feine Sahne Fischfilet , KIZ , Marteria , Casper , Kraftklub and Die Toten Hosen
- December 19: In the week before Christmas, the separation of Helene Fischer and Florian Silbereisen dominates the boulevard .
- December 27th: The last issue of the music magazine Spex appears.
