Star Automobile Company was an American manufacturer of automobiles from Ohio .

Company history

The company was founded in Cleveland in 1902 . HH Hodell was President, JA Mathews was Vice President, and WA Dutton was Secretary and Treasurer. HC Robinson is also mentioned. Gilbert R. Albaugh joined as a designer at the end of 1902. You started with the development of an automobile. In April 1903 the first prototype was ready. The brand name was Star . Ten vehicles had been sold by mid-summer 1903. In October 1903 it was announced that the shareholders would withdraw. By then around 20 vehicles had been built.

Harry S. Moore took over the company. He revised the previous model and presented it in March 1904 at the Cleveland Automobile Show . He also manufactured Buckboard vehicles. Production ended in 1904.

Brand name Star

A single - cylinder four-stroke engine with 8.5 hp was mounted in the middle of the vehicle. It drove the rear axle via a planetary gear and a chain. The chassis had a 193 cm wheelbase . Runabout and tonneau were available as superstructures .

In 1904 the engine output was increased to 9 hp, the wheelbase was reduced to 188 cm and other minor details were changed. In addition, the original price has been reduced from $ 1,250 to $ 950.

Brand name Buckboard

The only model is described as a buckboard . It was advertised as the cheapest motor vehicle on the market . It was similar to the Waltham Manufacturing Company's Orient Buckboard .
