Hints

In Baden-Württemberg and Saxony , the year in which the city was elevated to the status of a major district town is given for some mayors and the mayor who had previously been in office was thus given the official title of "mayor".

In Lübeck the mayor is traditionally not called the mayor , but the mayor . The Hanseatic city shares this tradition with the smaller Wismar .

The title of Lord Mayor is also not used in the city-states of Berlin and Hamburg, as well as in Bremen , since the city leaders are also heads of the state governments. These are called Governing Mayor (Berlin), First Mayor (Hamburg) and Mayor and President of the Senate (City of Bremen ).

Unless otherwise stated, the list is current as of September 2019.
