Beverly Manufacturing Company , previously Upton Machine Company , was an American manufacturer of automobiles . Another source names the Beverly Machine Company .
Company history
Colcord Upton founded the Upton Machine Company in Beverly , Massachusetts in 1900 . In 1900 he completed the first prototype , which he presented in November 1900 at the first New York Automobile Show . In 1901 two more vehicles followed for test purposes. It wasn't until the summer of 1902 that the production of automobiles for sale began. The brand name was Upton . In July 1903, Upton left the company to form the Upton Motor Company . From 1904 the brand name changed to Beverly , because Colcord Upton had remained in possession of the trademark rights to Upton . Vehicle production also ended in 1904. In September 1905 the company name changed to Beverly Manufacturing Company . Power transmissions were created. In January 1908 the Cameron Car Company took over the company.

The first vehicles had a single cylinder engine of De Dion-Bouton 3.5 hp power. A planetary gearbox developed in-house transferred the engine power to the rear axle.
The Four was also part of the range from 1902 to 1903 . He had a self-made four-cylinder engine with 16 hp. The chassis had a 229 cm wheelbase . A five-seater touring car body was mounted on it. It is possible that only one copy was made.
Brand name Beverly
The only model was based on the previous four-cylinder model. However, the engine output had been increased to 22 hp. The grille had also been redesigned. The wheelbase remained unchanged. The steering headlights , an early type of cornering light, were unusual .
