Overman Automobile Company , previously Overman Wheel Company , was an American manufacturer of vehicles .

Company history

Albert H. Overman founded the Overman Wheel Company in Chicopee Falls , Massachusetts . In 1882 he exhibited bikes of the brand Victor ago. Between 1895 and 1898 three developed prototypes of automobiles , the Overman were called. Series production began in 1899. The brand name was Victor .

In 1900 the bicycle division was sold to J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company . Overman continued to assemble his automobiles in a rented part of the plant . In the summer of 1900 a reorganization led to the Overman Automobile Company . Around 50 vehicles had been sold by November 1901. In January 1902 the production of water pumps for Locomobile was added.

In October 1902 there was a merger with Locomobile. The factory equipment was relocated to Bridgeport , Connecticut . Production of the Victor ended in early 1903 .

Other American manufacturers of passenger cars of this brand were Victor Motor Car Company , Victor Motor Company and Richmond Cyclecar Manufacturing Company .

Motor vehicles

The first three passenger cars had gasoline engines . Harry A. Knox, who later headed Knox Automobile , was involved in the development .

The production vehicles were steam cars designed by James H. Bullard. They had a steam engine with two cylinders . The engine output of 4 hp was transmitted to the rear axle via a chain. The body offering included Runabout for $ 1,000 , Victoria for $ 1,085, and Surrey for $ 1,500.
