List of tombs of European monarchs
This list contains an overview of the tombs of European emperors, kings and regents and their wives as well as important heirs to the throne since the Middle Ages.
The individual tables begin either with the proclamation as a kingdom or with a change of dynasty (England with William the Conqueror, Spain with the union of Castile and Aragon, Sweden with the Wasa dynasty, etc.). In addition, the remaining principalities of Liechtenstein and Monaco as well as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg were added. Detailed lists of all the people buried in the respective family graves can be accessed via the respective links.

England
Kingdom since the 9th century. The list begins with the Norman dynasty in 1066. Westminster Abbey has long been considered the family tomb of the English monarchy, with previous rulers also being buried in other parts of England and in the French rulers of Anjou and Normandy. France
Kingdom since 814. The French royal family's tomb is the Saint-Denis basilica, where most of the rulers were also buried. However, the basilica was ravaged during the French Revolution and the bodies were either stolen or buried outside the church. With the re-establishment of the Bourbons, the tombs were re-erected and restored. The bones of the recovered family members were collected and buried in the ossuary, as identification was not possible. Thus, most of the graves in St-Denis are empty. Only the graves of Louis VII, Louise of Lorraine, Louis XVI., Marie Antoinette and Louis XVIII. contain the real bones. The Bonaparte family found their family burial in the Chapelle Impériale in Ajaccio , but the two emperors were buried elsewhere.
