The 71 A-Ice Hockey World Championship for Men ( Russian 71. Чемпионат мира по хоккею с шайбой среди мужчин 2007 / 71. Cempionat mira po chokkeju s šajboj sredi mužčin 2007 ) was organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF to Russia forgive and took place from April 27 to May 13, 2007 in Moscow and Mytishchi . The Soviet Union has already hosted ice hockey world championships four times ( 1957 , 1973 , 1979 and 1986 ), and Russia in its current form once ( 2000 ).

Russia clearly prevailed against Germany (16) and Sweden (11) with 61 out of 88 votes, mainly because of the three applicants it had not played a World Cup for the longest time.

The final took place on May 13th. Canada beat Finland 4-2 in front of 12,000 spectators and won their 24th world title.

The world championship of the top division was held from April 27 to May 13, 2007 in the Russian capital Moscow and in the suburb of Mytishchi .

Venues

The game was played in Moscow's Chodynka Arena , which was newly built for the tournament and has a capacity of 12,126, and the Mytishchi Arena , which has a capacity of 7,000 and is located in the industrial suburb of Mytishchi, 20 kilometers from Moscow . Initially, it was planned to set one venue each to Moscow and one to Saint Petersburg , after Saint Petersburg had already been a venue at the 2000 World Cup . However - after the change in the World Cup regulations, according to which as few teams as possible had to travel long distances, due to the IIHF and a feared shortage of spectators in Saint Petersburg on the part of the Russian Federation - both venues were in or near the Russian capital placed.
