List of the districts of Prussia
This list contains all the districts and districts that have ever existed in Prussia .
structure
The circles are specified in this order:
- Brandenburg
- Hanover
- Hessen-Nassau
- Hohenzollern
- East and West Prussia
- Pomerania
- Poses
- Rhineland
- Saxony
- Silesia
- Schleswig-Holstein
- Westphalia
These areas are often - but not always - congruent with the z. T. provinces of the same name.
Counties or counties
In the list below, all counties or districts are given without names. The following rules applied to the designations of district and district :
- The official designation according to Prussian state law was basically circle . Only in those districts whose district town was independent (formed a separate urban district) or left the district association, the designation district became common.
- From January 1, 1939, the largely (with the exception of Prussia!) Uniform name in the German Reich was a district . Neither the Prussian Constitution (Article 71, paragraph 2), nor the county ordinances were changed to 1945, it remained in the names of county and city district , and only at the above requirement in the district .
Abbreviations
- A = resolution
- E = inclusion
- GA = exchange of territory
- KV = seat of the district administration / district office
- N = new formation
- NÄ = name change
- TA = outsourcing of a part (partial outsourcing)
- TE = integration of a part (part integration)
- TU = reclassification of a part (partial reclassification)
- U = reclassification
- (grt) = mostly (usually the part with the former district town)
- (t) = partially
Note
The names of the districts in Polish areas occupied by the German Reich from 1939 are shown in italics .
Lists
Brandenburg
Hanover
On September 12, 1867, several Hanoverian offices were merged into circles. However, the offices remained. Since the districts primarily only performed tax law tasks, they were called " tax districts " until the district reform on April 1, 1885 .

Hohenzollern country
With effect from August 17, 1855, the Hohenzollern Oberämter in the Hohenzollern Lands were put on an equal footing with the counties in the rest of Prussia. The two remaining Oberämter Hechingen and Sigmaringen were renamed on October 7, 1925 in districts (or districts).

The division of the country into an urban district and 19 rural districts was in effect from September 22, 1867.
The old spelling of the places "Reinbeck" and "Wandsbeck" was changed to "Reinbek" and "Wandsbek" by the provincial government in Schleswig on September 1, 1877 by an order on the uniform regulation of the spelling for place names.
