Oscar / Best Picture
The producers of a film are honored with the Oscar for the best film (original designation: Best Picture ) . As a rule, three people can be nominated as producers of a film. Since the 80th edition of the Academy Awards, more than three people can be nominated as producers under certain circumstances. Until 1951, the Oscar for the best film went to the production companies, only from 1952 to the producers, as it is today.
The number of nominated films was increased from five to ten for the 2010 Academy Awards for the first time to allow fantasy or animation films such as Above to be nominated in this category. After being held twice, it was decided at the 2012 Oscars that between five and ten films would be nominated in the future. Films are nominated that have received at least five percent of the votes for the most popular film in the preselection.
At the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020 , an international or non-English language film was awarded for the first time in the Best Film category ( Parasite from South Korea).
