The German state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania consists of a total of

  • 726 politically independent municipalities (as of May 26, 2019).

These are distributed as follows:

  • 084 cities including
  • 642 other municipalities, including
    • 010 municipalities not subject to office
    • 632 official municipalities

* the city of Grevesmühlen, which is free of charge, forms an administrative community with the Grevesmühlen-Land office

54 cities and 632 municipalities have come together to form 76 offices to carry out their administrative business . In 29 of these offices, a full-time mayor of a municipality (usually the mayor of an official city) takes on the administration of the other municipalities belonging to the office as the chief administrative officer (LVB).
