Municipal structure of the state of Schleswig-Holstein (as of March 1, 2013)

The state of Schleswig-Holstein consists of a total of

  • 1106 politically independent municipalities (as of March 1, 2018).

These are distributed as follows:

1,022 municipalities, including 12 cities, have come together in 84 offices to carry out their administrative business  . Two offices are cross-district: the office of Großer Plöner See (since January 1st, 2007) and the office of Itzstedt (since January 1st, 2008).

Furthermore, there are two uninhabited forest estate districts ( unincorporated areas ) in Schleswig-Holstein : Buchholz and Sachsenwald .
