Eventually it received a new slate roof and in 1954 a new organ. A carved head, which was the centerpiece of the high altar in the 15th century, is dedicated to the church patron.

The church tower was renovated for the first time in 1991, a fire damaged the interior of the church in 1992 and the repair work lasted until 1994. In 1995 the congregation erected a statue of John in the nave.
