As of August 18, 2008, thirty-two films released in 2008 have grossed more than $100 million, reaching blockbuster status. Five films have grossed more than $400 million, reaching international blockbuster motion picture status. One film (The Dark Knight) has grossed more than $900 million, making it the 9th highest grossing film in history. On August 4, The Dark Knight reached a $400 million domestic gross in record time, in only 18 days. The previous record was held by Shrek 2 which reached it in 43 days.[1]
