List of painters from the Düsseldorf School of Painting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The art-historical term Düsseldorfer Malerschule describes a group of painters who were trained at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in Düsseldorf , especially in the 19th century - from 1819 to 1918 to be more precise - at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in Düsseldorf , where they were taught, or who took private lessons from teachers at the Art Academy or who lived in close proximity the art academy had worked. The year 1819 marked the re-establishment of the Art Academy in Prussia, and 1918 the end of the First World War, which in Düsseldorf and at its academy represented an important turning point in artistic, political and institutional terms. The Düsseldorf School of Painting represents an art movement that provided significant impulses for the development of German and European painting. It was the first internationally radiating artist movement in Düsseldorf. Between 1819 and 1918 around 4,000 artists belonged to the Düsseldorf School of Painting.

  4. Landscape paintings date around 1910, among which a painter signed with the name J. Metzler , sometimes with the addition Ddf , probably for Düsseldorf . This painter is assigned to the Düsseldorf School due to the addition, but also due to the painting style and subject matter. To this day it has not been clarified who it is or which artist from Düsseldorf acquired the pseudonym .
