This article lists all parish mergers in France since 2016.

France has the largest number of parishes in Europe . While the number of municipalities only decreased by 5% between 1950 and 2015 (−2271 municipalities), it can be seen since 2016 that many more municipalities are merging in France. Legislation from 2010 usually creates so-called Communes nouvelles with effect from January 1st . Most of the former municipalities hosted by Communes nouvelles have the status of Communes déléguées , depending on the decision of the responsible municipal council . In the last four years, the number of parishes in France has decreased by 1625.

2019

In 2019 (as of February 28, 2019), 240 parish mergers took place across France. 628 communities were affected. As a result of the mergers, the number of French municipalities decreased from 35,227 to 34,839.

Arrondissements adjustments

Since a municipality cannot belong to two different arrondissements, it became necessary to adapt the arrondissements because of the following three new municipalities:

Carentan-les-Marais → The area of ​​the former municipalities of Brucheville and Vierville change from the Arrondissement Cherbourg to the Arrondissement Saint-Lô .
Corquoy → The area of ​​the former commune of Sainte-Lunaise changes from the Arrondissement Bourges to the Arrondissement Saint-Amand-Montrond .

In 2018, 37 parish mergers took place across France. 95 communities were affected. The mergers reduced the number of French municipalities from 35,285 to 35,227.

Department adjustments

Since a municipality cannot belong to two different departments, it became necessary to adapt the departments because of the following two new municipalities:

Tessy-Bocage → The area of ​​the former municipality of Pont-Farcy changes from the Calvados department to the Manche department .
Vallons-de-l'Erdre → The area of ​​the former commune of Freigné changes from the Maine-et-Loire department to the Loire-Atlantique department .

Arrondissements adjustments

Since a municipality cannot belong to two different arrondissements, it became necessary to adapt the arrondissements because of the following two new municipalities:
